Interactive map showing maximum measured chloride concentrations. [mg/L, milligrams per liter; ≥, greater than or equal to; <, less than]

About This Application

  • Note: data on this web site and related site pages are currently static due to database upgrades
  • The data will be refreshed when the new database is in operation

As part of U.S. Geological Survey water-quality data collection activities in New England, water samples are analyzed for chloride for monitoring networks and projects in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Chloride is of interest because high concentrations may affect aquatic life in streams or affect the quality of reservoirs and aquifers used for drinking water.

How to Use This Application

On the above map, hovering your mouse cursor over a point will show the station name, and clicking on a point will show a pop-up window with site information, including the maximum measured chloride concentration, and number of samples. Within a pop-up window, clicking on the blue highlighted text called “See analysis” will lead to a site-specific web page, which displays graphical and tabular information about chloride concentrations and specific conductance measurements for the selected site.
